Carlsbad Caverns

Here is the second park from my trip out to Texas. This one was truly spectacular. Also a nice break from the punishing hike from the day before.

I got to the park early so I could be one of the first people in the caverns. It paid off since most of my walking tour I did alone! It was incredible – definitely the largest cavern I have ever been in. Unfortunately its hard to capture the pictures of the big room because of the lighting, but I have some cool pics of the individual formations I liked 🙂

The formations were fascinating to see. I opted for the audio guide which was very informative. I’ll try out the slide show for the first time on here! I posted some of my favorites. Let me know what you think!

The whole walk through took about an hour and a half and was self-guided. As the audio guide recommended, it was fun to sort of squint your eyes a bit and use your imagination to try and understand some of the names of the formations. The big far column was the rock of ages. You can also see some of the other famous formations like the chandelier and the totem pole. The ladder is one used by some of the first explorers!

I liked the Mirror Lake sign so I couldn’t resist grabbing a picture. Also featured is cave bacon! Or draperies. Depending on who you ask I guess. I like the name cave bacon more.

Don’t skip this one if you’re nearby!!
