Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

Park #7 of 9: October 2017

This was another park without a ton of hiking options (unless you want to venture down to the canyon floor) But the lack of hiking did nothing to dim the excitement I had when seeing it for the first time! The first pull off you let you walk over to the edge.

You couldn’t fabricate a picture more beautiful than this! And the guy in the first picture helps show the size of this canyon! I believe the water falls faster through this canyon than anywhere else which is what causes the depth.

Another beautiful part was what they call the Painted Wall.

LOVED this park. I did a short hike at the end of the road that wraps around and has some other views, but they didn’t compare with the ones you could see from the trails off the road. It was fun to walk along the edge of these cliff and see the water rushing at the bottom. After this park I decided to meet up with my grandmother in Salida. To get there I drove through the San Jose National Forest. It was by far the most stunning drive I’ve ever made. I am surprised I didn’t drive off the road, it was so hard to pay attention! I didn’t take a ton of pictures, but here is one I did pull over to capture
